He had a dentist appointment here yesterday. Mom called me on Monday to let me know so that I could possibly meet up with them after I got off work and he was done at the dentist. When I called they were in the Towne Center doing some shopping. Mom was looking for an Easter outfit. I found them at Ann Taylor and walked around with them to several different places before heading back to my house.
Since Lil Henry is on spring break this week (oh how I would love to get those days back again!) and since hubby commutes to the town my Mom lives in for work every day, Henry decided to stay the night.
The sad fact is that I haven't seen this kid since New Years! No kidding. I know, I'm a terrible granddaughter, daughter and sister seeing as how I only live an hour away from them. But, in my defense we had planned several trips to our hometown in the last few months but with hubby's health issues and my stepdad's hospital stays and recovery periods (we normally crash at my Mom's and surgical wounds + 2 hyper Chihuahuas = VERY BAD SITUATION), it just didn't work out. So when I got the chance to see my baby brother, who I have been missing dearly, I jumped at the chance.
Bentley and Lexi were very excited to see him and Mom. They really love their Uncle Hen and their Mimi. Bentley and Lexi loved on Henry for what seemed like hours...that is, until the bully sticks came out meaning supper time. On Saturday, hubby and I made chicken and dumplings and since that is Lil Henry's fave, he had those leftovers for dinner. It must have been good too because he cleaned his plate!
We don't really have too much at our house for a 7 year old to do except watch tv, play with the dogs, and play the Wii but Henry seemed to be perfectly happy with just watching tv with us. He too is a fan of American Idol.
Despite the fact that we have two guest rooms with perfectly good, comfy beds in them, a nice comfy couch, a comfy recliner, AND a super duper comfy papasan, the child still wanted to sleep on the floor in our room. I just shook my head and got everything ready for him because I have a hard time saying no to my Booboo. Thank goodness it has been in the mid-high 70s here all week so that it was warm enough in the house that he wouldn't freeze to death. We pulled the big cushion from the papasan and made him a nice little bed in our room. Bentley and Lexi both spent time wiggling and loving on him before they got back in our bed and settled down for sleep. Before his head even hit the pillow, Lil Henry was asleep.
This morning he was bright-eyed and bushy-tailed when we woke him up. I think it was the promise of McDonald's for breakfast on his way home that motivated him! Ha ha. And the fact that he is going to see us again in only a few days since we are heading that way for this Easter weekend.
I can't even begin to tell you how awesome it was to spend some time with him. He is such a cool kid and I love him like he is one of my own. I guess that's what happens when you are over 17 years apart. I'm hoping to make his visits more frequent this summer when he is out on break. It isn't easy for us to get everything packed up for us and the munchkins to go to our hometown and then make the 1-hour drive only to do it all over again a day or two later to come back home. We have made a promise to each other that, in order to reduce the stress in our lives, we will limit our trips "home". So I don't miss out on either of my brothers' lives, I plan to have them come here and hang out with us some weekends too. I think now that they are both older, there are more things that we can all do together that all of us will enjoy. And it doesn't hurt that we live only 2 minutes from the beach!
I want to apologize for being so absent lately. Things have been crazy at work. I've been swamped, especially this week as it is the end of the month. I hope that I have more time for blogging soon. I miss it so and I miss you guys. I AM reading your blogs, albeit a few days behind, but in the essence of time, I am not commenting. I promise to start commenting again as soon as things start to even out.
Oh and I am dying to show you Lexi's Easter outfit! But I am trying to be a good girl and wait until Easter to reveal it. It's fab!

Friday evening Bentley had a wellness visit. Everything is A-okay. The vet said his coat, weight, conditioning, teeth, etc. all look awesome. For the second time he remarked on Bentley's teeth and how great they look for his age and his breed (Chihuahuas are notorious for having terrible teeth). I attributed his pretty teeth to my nightly brushings and his twice daily chewing on bully sticks. (Wait till he gets a load of Lexi's teeth...GORGEOUS! Prettiest teeth on a dog I've ever seen!) We measure out their food every feeding and are very careful when giving treats not to overdo it and add on extra weight. Even a couple of extra ounces can mean a lot of pain and health issues for these little guys. I got a call earlier today saying that the intestinal parasite tests came back negative. And the bill was a lot easier to swallow this time since he didn't need any shots (they were all 3-year shots at his 1-year appointment).
Saturday morning we took the Munchkins for a walk around the neighborhood. Of course they insisted on greeting everyone we can across. We met more of our neighbors as they were outside enjoying the sunshine too. There are a lot of children in our neighborhood so it's a good thing that the Munchkins like children. Bentley actually LOVES them, especially babies. Normally I walk Lexus and hubby walks Bentley but this time I walked Bentley. Bentley pulls and tries to go off into other people's yards when hubby walks him. He doesn't do this with me. I think it's because I have made it clear that I am the pack leader and Daddy has made it clear that he is a pushover. Lexi walked great with hubby though so that was good.
At one point though, we passed by one house. The dad was in the garage on the phone. Bentley saw him and wanted to go say hello. I wouldn't let him so we kept going. But when we reached their side porch, the mom and the two little girls were on the porch. Bentley put the brakes on when he saw them and completely refused to move. No matter what I said to him, he stayed put. I knew exactly what he was after because he is such a social butterfly. So I told them that he wanted to say hello. They were very sweet and came out to the sidewalk to meet him. The kids (one was a baby) were very gentle when petting him and he was eating it up. He was giving them kisses on their hands left and right. When he finally decided he greeted them sufficiently we moved along. He was fine until we came across another neighbor and her adorable puppy. It was some sort of spaniel although I'm not exactly sure which type. Bentley wanted to say hello so I let him then insisted we be on our way. It was time to leave for the fashion show.
We got the Munchkins all decked out in their duds and away we went to the Towne Center.
Every year, in the Mount Pleasant Towne Center, they hold an Art Festival. The fashion show was part of that and was to benefit the Grateful Golden Retriever Rescue of the Low Country and the Charleston Animal Society. Last year Bentley and Lexus were in the fashion show but this year the models were dogs up for adoption with the Grateful Golden Rescue and the CAS.
When we got to Hairy Winston before the show, it was chaotic. There was a lot going on with everyone getting ready for the show. Not to mention that both organizations were set up right outside the door. There were a lot of people around and a lot of people inside. We looked around for a few minutes to see if there was anything new, talked to Jennie, and then went outside to sit with the munchkins on the bench while we waited for the show to start. Jennie asked me to take pictures for her so it was a good thing I had my awesomely fabulous DSLR with me!
Waiting with Dad for the show to start!
The first models in the show! Notice the lovely handmade collars and leashes.
Next up, two more adorable pups!
A Golden/Chow mix. Isn't she lovely with the bows in her hair and the flower around her neck?
A Chihuahua! If we had room she may have come home with me!
This little Dachsund puppy stole my heart. He probably would have come home with us if we had the room! I just feel in love with that sweet face!
The doggies didn't like the slippery stage very much.
And the last model for the day!
It was fun watching all the sweet doggies and taking pictures. We hung around for a little while longer but with the sun, carrying around Lexi and the camera, I was pretty tired. So we headed back home for a night in.
Sunday was rainy but we had a lot to do. I woke up feeling very blah and apparently I had some trouble breathing in my sleep. Hubby said he woke me up because I was gasping for air. I vaguely remember that but I have no idea what was going on. After some yummy french toast for breakfast and a shower I was feeling better. We needed to get my wedding rings inspected and have my sapphire ring from Christmas resized (long story but the Kay Jewelers near us closed thus causing the delay). We had to schlep all the way to North Charleston (it's only like a 15 minute drive but still) to the mall to the Kay Jewelers there. We were in there for quite a while having my rings inspected and cleaned, doing the necessary paperwork to have the other ring resized, and also they offered to resize hubby's ring right then. He's lost 20 pounds since we've been married and despite having taken his ring to have it resized at a jewelry store in our hometown, it was still too big. It wasn't until they measured it at Kay that we realized it was probably never resized to begin with. Typical.
I did some browsing for what I'd like my anniversary band to look like and hubby looked at some men's bands. He mentioned one he'd like to upgrade to seeing as how he wouldn't let me bling his out before we got married. :(
We left there with our rings all nice and sparkly and went to Sears, of course. Nothing of interest to hubby in there really so we grabbed some lunch in the food court (Sbarro pizza) and headed back home. We picked up the munchkins and then proceeded to hit all the pet stores in this area looking for Easter outfits for them. I want matching yellow outfits but I just can't seem to find anything. After looking online I've figured something out although they don't match 100%. I'm thinking I'll go with the outfit of Bentley's pictured above (it's so hard to find cute male dog clothes) and match Lexi's dress to that. If I had time I'd have my awesome friend Susan make something for them, but I just don't think there is anywhere enough time before Easter. (If you are just joining us then you probably don't know that I am nutso over my dogs. Well I am, totally. Just wanted to clear that up.)
I did pick something up for them, or for me depending on how you look at it, but you'll just have to wait and see what that is! After that it was a quick stop at the grocery store to pick up some groceries and of course rent New Moon for $1, and then homeward bound.
So what did I think of New Moon. Hmmm...I'm not sure yet. I'm not crazy over the movies like most girls and young women I know but I did enjoy the first one. I felt like it totally played with my emotions. This one I'm still trying to figure out how I feel about it. I'll let you know. I think maybe I need to read the books to get the full feel for the storyline. We'll see.
Okay, there is more but I think this post is long enough. I'll save the rest for later!

My friend's brother is doing okay. He has been concious this week and talking (although his speech is slurred from the stroke) this week. He will be needing a lot of physical therapy but he is doing a lot better than expected.
Hubby has been doing alright this week. No issues with his tummy since we started this strict diet to eliminate the tummy pain but he has been having some pain in his chest. He has a "use injury" that will flare up occasionally. It's pretty minor, considering.
I've been good, but busy at work. I've been so exhausted in the evenings that I have been totally and completely useless. Things are a little stressful at work right now for reasons that are completely beyond my control. I just wish I could fix the things that need to be fixed and make things a lot less stressful for everyone. This may be a sign that it is time for me to move into the medical field in preparation for going to med school. It's not easy to study when I'm already falling asleep on my way home. Yeah, not good.
As Spring is beginning, things are beginning to pick up for hubby and I. This weekend is the annual Art Festival. We participated in the Hairy Winston Fashion Show last year. They both got all dressed up in their fashion from Hairy Winston and strutted their stuff onstage. Well, sort of. I carried Lexi and had Bentley walk, but he stopped halfway and I had to pick him up. He wasn't very fond of the hat that came with his outfit! They are holding the Fashion Show again this year but we aren't participating. It is to benefit the Golden Retreiver Rescue and I believe those dogs that are up for adoption are modeling. I think they'll be fabulous! We will definitely be attending and taking pictures. I love any chance to get Bentley and Lexus out of the house for a little socialization. Lexi needs it.
I hope to also do a little thrifting on Saturday. Hubby and I are in desperate need of matching nightstands. In a perfect world I would love some distressed turquoise nightstands with 2-3 drawers but at this point I'm willing to take what I can get. I think it will be fun to refinish it if we find something good.
I'm also hoping to get some shopping in. I have gift cards left over from Christmas and since I'll already be in the Towne Center where there is fabulous shopping, I'll have to check out the current inventory.
Next weekend is my BIL's birthday. He is turning 21. Of course we are going to hometown that weekend to celebrate. I know the family is throwing him a party but I'm not sure what type of party. If it is a "party party" then I'm not sure how hubby and I will fit in. We'll be the oldest people there! What a way to make me feel ancient at the tender age of 25!
I'm not sure if I've mentioned this before or not but hubby's Mom and sister do flowers for weddings and hubby and I always help. We actually did the flowers for our own wedding. Here's a little peek:
My girls' bouquets
It wasn't easy that's for sure, but we knew it wouldn't be. We have been helping them do weddings for years. Of course it was a little different doing our own flowers with them and A LOT more stressful, but it worked out beautifully. They 100% accomplished my vision and then some. The table arrangements themselves were MASSIVE. I'm talking super huge. I'd show you a picture but I don't seem to have one on this computer. :( They alone took hours upon hours.
Anyway, I tell you that because we have several weddings to do flowers for this spring and summer. The first one is on April 17th and it is hubby's cousin's wedding, SIL is a bridesmaid...and its an out of town wedding on top of that. So there is definitely going to be a time crunch involved. We will most likely miss the ceremony but that's okay as long as we make it to the reception. Anyway, for this wedding I need something to wear and I haven't the faintest idea what it will be. I may need to do some shopping for that, hopefully with my gift cards!
I can't even begin to tell you how ready I am for beach weather! I have my eye on several bathing suits at Victoria's Secret but they are all on backorder. :( This weekend is supposed to be in the mid-high 70s and I can't wait! I'm breaking out my shorts and flip-flops!
Bentley has a wellness visit today. He'll go in for his normal yearly tests and get his yearly vaccinations. He does so well at the vet that I usually don't have to worry. The only thing I normally worry about is if he will have a reaction to his shots. He hasn't yet so far but you never know! I get to leave work early in order to make it to his appointment on time, so of course that has me smiling! :)

After work on Friday I headed home to pick up the hubby and then headed downtown. Of course the parking garage was packed. We had to drive all the way up to the very top, where its not covered, in order to find a space. Luckily it was only 1 block away from our destination. Everyone was already at the Noisy Oyster. We joined them, I ordered a margarita, and then we pigged out on appetizers. Hubby and I had a little bit of Joe's calamari and we ordered gator tail and mozarella sticks (with ranch dressing of course). It was yummy! I followed that up with a house salad and another margarita, extra salt.
Then it was off to Kilwin's for our guests to get some yummy chocolate candy. The smells alone were fattening! Ha. After that it was off to the Market Street Saloon. Now, this isn't the sort of place that hubby and I frequent. We are very boring people who prefer much tamer atmospheres. So just hearing about this place had me a little worried. And it was everything and more that everyone said it was. Think Coyote Ugly and you've got a good idea what this place is like. It was good entertainment. I think I spent most of the night laughing. The patrons were fabulously entertaining. And my friend Nick, it was his birthday, had a blast. It was enough just to see him having a good time. We didn't stay very long because we are boring old people like that. While we were there though, I ran into someone from my hometown. It never fails. Every time we go anywhere, WalMart, downtown, etc. I see someone I know or someome hubby knows from our hometown. It was a nice surprise to see this person though. He is a sweet guy I went to high school with who also attended the church my parents go to and that I used to attend. He lives in Charleston now so I'm hoping that hubby and I can meet up with him sometime for dinner or something. He is such a sweet person.
I think we ended up making it home by 11:00pm. Once nice hot shower later, I made it in bed by 11:30pm at the latest. The next morning my throat was so sore from having to scream to be heard over the very loud music. Hubby and I ended up being lazy most of the day on Saturday. It was nice to just hang out together and catch up on the shows we had DVR'd. I started some recipe organization which I continued on Sunday. We didn't do too much on Sunday either but we did get out a couple of times. We went to lunch at East Bay Deli, picked some stuff up at WalMart, went to the grocery store, and took the munchkins to Hairy Winston to pick up some bully sticks.
Nothing too terribly exciting. I'm hoping that when Spring is officially here, I will have more interesting things to blog about.
I'm still working on organizing all of my recipes. So far it is going well but it is taking some time. We have tried out all new recipes this week and all of them but one have been AMAZING! And they are all super healthy which is a plus. We are being very careful what we cook for hubby's sake. His IBS isn't very friendly when he eats certain things. It really sucks for him but we are trying to make the best of it. I hope to share some of the recipes with ya'll soon!
Tuesday, March 9, 2010
I guess I could tell you how my recipe organizing went...or is going. Nope, still not finished. I went out and bought a big ole 3" binder, some sheet protectors, and a stick of glue (just in case). When I start organizing I become really anal about it and everything has to be just so. Needless to say, that fact is causing this project to drag on. I have been typing up all of our regular recipes as well as some new ones we tried out on Sunday and yesterday. So far everything has turned out to be amazing which is great since we started hubby's new diet for his intestinal health. (He was diagnosed with diverticulitis and then IBS for those of you who are just joining us here.) Once I finally get the recipes organized and myself caught up on blogging, blog-reading, etc. I will definitely be sharing some of these awesome recipes with you all. Sprinkles and Nadine, the ranch recipe WILL be among those. Don't worry, I didn't forget!
Right now in my living room I have four piles of recipes and a couple of piles of recipe books. I am re-typing everything so that it is all in the same font (I told you I'm anal!). I am so far able to get two recipes on each page, which is nice. I already have my categories all mapped out and am just trying to separate all my recipes into those categories and type them up. I'm typing up my own recipes that we make regularly and also ones from other people and the internet that we have tried and approved. The new ones that have yet to be tried will the last to go in the book because obviously I want to try them and either throw them out or approve them before I waste my time typing them up and printing them out.
So, so far everything is going good. I'm working on it all a little at night when I get home. But there just never seems to be enough time in the day!
Oh yeah, I also added a formspring box in the right sidebar. If there is anything you want to know, feel free to ask away. If not, that's okay too! I will promise to try and answer all appropriate and respectful questions. I am hoping by opening myself up to questions that these questions will help me with ideas for blog posts. We'll see.
Hopefully I can figure out what is going on with this computer or can upload the pictures to my laptop so I can share my weekend with you!
And to those of you who have offered kind words and prayers for my stepdad, THANK YOU! If you follow me on Twitter then you probably already know this, but for those of you who don't, this weekend his stress test showed some abnormalities. They did a heart cath yesterday and it came back all clear. So his pain is definitely NOT due to an arterial blockage or narrowing which is great news. Hopefully now his life can get back to normal and hopefully he'll stay out of the hospitals for a long while.
Yesterday I received some bad news though. My friend and coworker Deb got word over the weekend that her brother was in a really bad car accident. He lives in Massachusetts so she is getting all the information secondhand, but she will be flying up there today to see him. He is messed up pretty badly. He had a huge number of injuries the least of which were two shattered ankles. He had tears in both his aorta and his carotid artery, lots of internal bleeding, and several other issues I don't remember. He had an 8-hour surgery this weekend in which they removed his spleen. He then had a stroke yesterday followed by several seizures. An MRI determined that he had about 25% brain function. Then this morning they found more blood pooling in his abdomen and had to rush him back into surgery. He has yet another surgery scheduled for later today as well. So he is in very bad shape and is nowhere near being in the clear. We still don't know how things are going to turn out and there is a real possibility that he may not make it through this. I don't know her brother but I have been keeping him in my prayers. She could use your prayers on behalf of her brother more than ever. So I will ask you again (I know I sound like a broken record) that if you feel led, to please pray for my friend's brother.
And just so we're not ending on a sad note, here is a picture of my pretty little princess. She always brings a smile to my face.

Today a woman who works for a customer company of the company I work for (confused yet?) is coming to Charleston. She is on vacation in Myrtle Beach and after speaking with Deb (one of my coworkers) she has agreed to pop down here for a visit. She is someone we do regular correspondance with so it will be nice to finally meet her in person. Her only stipulation for visiting us was that we have to show her a good time. That, we can do. So tonight we are all going out (on the company's dime no less) downtown for happy hour and a little nightlife afterward.
The plan is to go to the Noisy Oyster for happy hour drinks and appetizers (you can't beat their prices!) and then from there to the Market Street Saloon (think Coyote Ugly). Not sure how I feel about that last stop but I'm willing to give it a try. It's not exactly mine & hubby's type of place or atmosphere but we'll give it a try. I'm really excited though because we'll be meeting up with some new friends. Hopefully it will be fun.
Hubby and I were originally supposed to be going to dinner with my Mom, my brother Dusty, and his girlfriend for Dusty's birthday. But, with my stepdad in the hospital and my Mom having to take time off to be with him, she won't be able to make it on Friday. So those plans are being rescheduled.
Saturday I am hoping to get an organizational project started. My recipe collection is in dire need of some organization. And, with hubby's condition necessitating a strict lifestyle change, this organization is needed more than ever. So I am going to have to implement Saturdays as our menu-planning day for the following week, and also our grocery shopping day (because Sunday is just WAY too crowded in the grocery store). This Saturday my plan is to at least begin this recipe-organizing project, even if I'm not able to finish it that same day. We have to be very careful what Dru eats from now on to avoid causing him any intestinal pain so that means my diet is also having to change. (I mean really, who wants to cook two separate meals for two people?) At some point that day we are going to sit down, decide what we are going to eat each day of the week (I'm not big on leftovers but hubby doesn't mind them), make our grocery list, and go shopping being sure to stick to our grocery list. We normally carry a list to the grocery store anyway so that won't be a big change, but I'm hoping the organization will help to keep menu planning much less stressful! Wish us luck!
We were also invited to a birthday party for one of hubby's cousins on Saturday. They are a very sweet couple with two adorable children who we genuinely like spending time with. We don't get to see them very often, even though they only live like 2 minutes from us, but when we are around them we seem to enjoy ourselves. If hubby feels up to it we will most likely be popping over to help celebrate his cousin's birthday.
Sunday, if my stepdad is no longer in the hospital and is doing well, my Mom may be rescheduling dinner for that evening. Otherwise that day will be our day to take it easy just doing some minor cleaning and upkeep, and laundry. Oh and I'm sure there will be lots of snuggles with the Munchkins.
I can't tell you how ready I am for the clock to strike 5:00pm this afternoon!
Oh and a quick update on my stepdad. He is still in the hospital but the prognosis looks good. He was admitted as a heart patient just as a precautionary measure due to his family's history of heart conditions. So far all the tests are showing that his pain isn't related to the heart. Most likely, which is what I've thought all along, is that it is inflammation resulting from his previous surgery and not following doctors orders properly. He has been doing a lot of traveling in the car to and from doctor's appointments with him Mom, going to meetings with his Dad, and just doing a lot of stuff his body just isn't ready for. He tends to freak out and blow things out of proportion when he is sick on top of letting issues get to their worst before seeking medical attention.
I am glad that everything seems to be okay with him but in the last month I have come to a conclusion. Men are BIG babies. After seeing my stepdad freak out over the years over the smallest things (health and pain-wise) and my husband then do the same thing in the last few months I've realized it is definitely a good thing men can't have babies. They'd never survive! All you married ladies out there, if you haven't already realized this fact that men are big babies when it comes to pain, then I can assure you that you soon will. But what can you do? Ya gotta love em, right?
And just so you know, yes my husband knows I am saying this and he will readily admit that he is a big baby when it comes to pain. At least he's learning!
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend! See you on Monday! :)

Now onto my throwback for today. Today I want to share with you a clip from my favorite movie of all time. I watched this movie over and over and over and over as a kid. I watched it so much that I could recite every single line by every single character. I loved it then and I still love it now. Although today it makes me a little sad. The embedding code was disabled so I'll just have to share with you the link.
I hope you enjoy! Hopefully I'll find some time to scan some embarrasing old pictures of myself and my family soon to share with you on Throwback Thursday.
As always, if you want to join in, please feel free. Just let me know you are so I can visit you and see what you are throwing back to!

So, to recap our Valentine's Day. As a general rule we really don't DO Valentine's Day. We've been together for 11 going on 12 years and after that long you have soooo many days to celebrate something that you find yourself letting some of the more minor ones (i.e. holidays created by merchants) fall by the wayside. We don't exchange gifts. We leave that for the big stuff like birthdays and anniversaries. We decided to just take it easy. Hubby was such a sweetheart and let me sleep in. I am not a morning person AT ALL but he totally is. So I woke up to the most scrumptious smell wafting into the bedroom. Just as I was opening my eyes hubby came strutting in with a tray full of yummy breakfast.
Yep, those ARE heart-shaped pancakes. So sweet! So I had yummy in my tummy pancakes, turkey bacon (I like it better than regular bacon, what can I say?), and Jamaican-Me-Crazy coffee (it is a gourmet coffee blend with kahlua in it! YUMMO!).
After breakfast we pretty much to took it easy and got ready to go out for a Valentine's lunch complete with dessert (which of course we don't normally have for lunch). I decided (it was my choice) that I wanted to go to Longhorn because I was craving the Wild West Shrimp. Hubby was bummed he couldn't have any (because of the diverticulitis) but he had a yummy chicken sandwhich of some sort. We finished it off with the Goldrush dessert which was heaven! Like we say here in the South, it made me wanna slap my mama! (Not really....I would NEVER!) Ha ha. We did a little window-shopping afterwards planning for some home makeovers and then off to Starbucks for a white chocolate mocha to share.
Then it was back home to start preparing for dinner. Hubby was such a dear and cooked some really yummy ribeyes for us. Well, I should say WE cooked. It was his idea to cook for me but since he made me breakfast I was insistent on helping him with dinner. I think we had mashed potatoes or something along with a vegetable but I can't be sure. My memory just isn't what it used to be! Ha.
Now on to my birthday. All in all it was a nice birthday week. We were super swamped at work so I didn't have much time for blogging and I was exhausted by the time I got home so we didn't really do much that week. Friday was the day of my birthday. I got up early, did my hair and make-up (which is VERY unusual for me on a workday), and headed to Starbucks for my free birthday drink. I also picked up three additional coffees for a few of my coworkers. When I arrived at my office there was a vase of three red roses and a purty polka dot balloon waiting for me. It was from my friend and coworker Deb. She is such a sweetie pie! I forgot to take a picture but trust me the roses were gorgeous and the balloon was totally me.
On my desk was a card from another of my coworkers and his family. He has three adorable kids who are so well-behaved, well-mannered, and just all around sweethearts. We had a lot going on at work that day so I didn't really do much else. I was able to go out to lunch with Deb and her husband to my favorite gourmet Chinese restaurant. It was the perfect birthday lunch! When I got home hubby was there waiting on me. We had a nice dinner together and went to bed early.
Saturday morning we tried to take it easy. We went to Starbucks for a white chocolate mocha to share and a couple of yummy bacon, egg, and gouda sandwiches and then it was off to TJ Maxx. I was looking for something to wear to dinner that night but I ended up finding an adorable green dress coat (which was paid for by birthday money from my Mom...THANKS MOM!) and a pair of adorable patent leather Cole Haan (with Nike Air) flats which were a birthday gift from hubby. I decided to skip trying to find something to wear and just make something in my closet work.
We invited several of our family members and friends to come join us for dinner at Southend Brewery downtown but it turned out to be a bad weekend. My Dad and stepmom were going to come but my stepmom was informed earlier that day that her Dad may have had a stroke. He lives in North Carolina, so she was waiting to hear back from her family there. My Mom wasn't able to leave my stepdad, who is still recovering from his surgery so she promised to come have dinner with us for my brother's birthday (which is tomorrow). We may be able to get together this weekend but I'm not sure. My Nanny and Papa were coming but my Papa woke up with the flu. Yeah, it sucks, I know. Several of my friends were sick all week that week and others were either out of town that weekend or had something already planned. So it ended up being me, hubby, my MIL, my FIL, my SIL, my BIL, my SIL's boyfriend and his best friend, my friend Deb, and her husband Nick. Even with everyone who couldn't make it we still had a table full!
My sweet friend Deb gave me some Charleston Gate jewelry. It's beautiful and I actually am wearing it today! I'll try to remember to take a picture later. My MIL gave me a Pandora bracelet and the SIL gave me a present charm to go on it. I'm so excited about it too. I've wanted one for ages and I can't wait to start filling it up!
My friends Deb and Nick.
My adorable husband.
My MIL & FIL. (I had to sneak pictures or else they would hide from me!)
My SIL's boyfriend and his best friend.
My BIL & SIL (My BIL was sunburnt from playing soccer earlier that day.)
